Chris Christie Says His Weight Wouldn't Keep Him From the White House: "That's Ridiculous"

It's still unknown if New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is considering to run for President in 2016, but if he does, he's not letting his large frame stand in the way.

During his interview with Barbara Walters and for her Most Fascinating People of 2012 special, Walters called Christie "overweight" to which the Republican responded "more than a little." Walters stated that some people believe Christie's  weight might prevent him from becoming president — a notion which Christie quickly rebuffed. "That's ridiculous. I mean, that's ridiculous. I don't know what the basis for that it is," he told her.

When Walters explained that it is because of concern for his health, Christie, 50, pointed to his time in the governorship thus far.  "Well I've done this job pretty well. I think people watched me for the last number of weeks during Hurricane Sandy doing 18-hour days and getting back up the next day and still being just as effective in the job so I don't think that will be a problem."

Christie, who has been Governor of New Jersey since 2010, briefly considered a bid for the White House in 2012, but ultimately decided against it. His popularity has surged in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, which left millions in New Jersey without power and destroyed much of the beloved Jersey Shore, leaving many to think he might consider to run in 2016. However, Christie recently announced he plans to run for re-election in New Jersey in 2014 and wants to stay in office to see the post-Sandy rebuilding efforts through.

During the interview, Walters also asked the Garden State native why he has struggled with his weight. "If I could figure that out, I'd fix it," Christie said.
