Brown was named by Las Vegas police on Monday as a misdemeanor battery suspect, accusing him of punching a man he was playing basketball with during an altercation at the Palms Casino Resort. He has been given the option of signing a misdemeanor citation or having the case submitted to the Clark County District Attorney's Office for possible prosecution.
Police said the victim reported the incident from the hospital where he was treated for his injuries and release, and that Brown had left the scene by the time detectives arrived.
If he signs the citation, Brown promises to appear in court, though it is not an admission of guilt, police said. He would also be summoned to court if the district attorney were to charge him.
Either way, Brown is facing a possible $1,000 fine if convicted, said police spokesman Larry Hadfield.
The singer previously had his probation revoked in 2013, after being accused of punching a man trying to get a picture of him in Washington, D.C. A year later he was kicked out of a court-ordered rehab program and was jailed for breach of probation for nearly three months.
