Chris Brown Surrenders in Felony Battery Investigation, Skips Grammy Performance

Rihanna and Chris Brown

Chris Brown surrendered to police in a felony battery investigation, skipping his performance at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night, according to People.

"He turned himself in around 7 p.m. to one of our stations and is being interviewed by detectives now," LAPD Officer Karen Smith told the magazine. He was booked into the jail and was later released after posting $50,000 bail. Brown is due in court March 5.

Grammy officials earlier announced that Brown and his girlfriend, Rihanna, abruptly canceled their performances at the music awards show.

The felony investigation stems from a Sunday-morning incident in which Brown and an unidentified woman argued, investigators said. When police arrived, the woman had visible injuries and she identified her attacker as Brown, who had left the scene, according to the police report.

It is still unknown whether Rihanna is the woman involved in the case. Rihanna's rep told People: "Rihanna is well. Thanks for your concern and support." Calls by the AP to Brown's rep were not returned.
