Chicago P.D.'s Season 7 Premiere Will Finally Provide Answers About Antonio's Absence

It looks like we'll finally get some answers about Antonio Dawson's (Jon Seda) ambiguous exit from Chicago P.D. in the Season 6 finale. When the NBC drama returns for Season 7 on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 10/9c, the series will offer a clearer picture about what happened to the struggling detective who was last seen relapsing in his car. The show may be touching on Antonio's absence from the unit, but that doesn't necessarily mean there will be a finite ending to his story anytime soon.

"I don't think there will be closure in the first episode. There will be closure down the road," showrunner Rick Eid told TV Guide. "We'll maybe, throughout the year, touch on what's going on in his life, if appropriate."

That certainly leaves room for Antonio to return, so fans shouldn't give up the hope. After all, he previously left in Season 4 to head up his own unit on the short-lived spin-off Chicago Justicebut immediately came back to Chicago P.D. following Justice's cancellation. Plus, according to Eid, the "door is always open" for him to return.

But for now, Intelligence will be preoccupied with Kelton's (John C. McGinley) mysterious murder, which has the whole department determined to find his killer. All signs point to Voight (Jason Beghe), who told Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) earlier that he would "do what needs to be done" with Kelton and was last seen driving away looking like a man with a guilty conscience. Voight has proven in the past that he's willing to go to great lengths to protect the people that he loves, but whether or not he's capable of assassinating an elected official remains to be seen.
