In two weeks, Dick Wolf's latest franchise will expand to three shows, when Chicago Med joins Chicago P.D. and Chicago Fire in prime time.

The shows will occupy the same universe, with overlapping characters and cases of the week, much like Chicago P.D. and Chicago Fire do currently. According to Wolf, Chicago Med seemed like the natural next step in the series.

"Who puts, every day, other people ahead of themselves? It's cops, firemen, paramedics," Wolf says in a sneak peek at his newest spin-off. "Chicago Fire was the first of the trilogy, but it could have just as easily been Chicago P.D. And where do you think the paramedics every episode take people? They take them to Chicago Med. So, here we are."

Is your favorite show heading for cancellation?

The hospital has been in the background of Fire and P.D., but Chicago Med will introduce viewers to the major players who work at the hospital, including Chief of Psychiatry Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt), hospital boss Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) and nurse April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta).

"To have three shows that the casts operate seamlessly, it's never been done in the history of commercial TV," according to Wolf.

Check out the exclusive sneak peek below. Chicago Med premieres Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 9/8c on NBC. Will you watch?
