The Emmy-winning Taxi vet has mostly been stuck in low-gear shows like Numb3rs in recent years. His masterful guest turn in tonight's episode of DirecTV's top-drawer legal thriller could change all that. Hirsch plays Bill Herndon, the hard-drinking horndog legal mentor to Patty Hewes (Glenn Close), who asks him to assist her protégé Ellen Parsons (Rose Byrne) in the probe of dirty-dealing military contractor High Star. Our verdict is unanimous: He's guilty of stealing every one of his scenes.

And this is just the start of Hirsch's career renaissance: He's also got roles in three highly anticipated films: The Muppets, Tower Heist (opposite Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy) and This Must Be the Place (with Sean Penn). He's come a long way from Dear John.
