CeeLo Green has turned his chair for the last time: The Voice coach won't be returning to the hit series, he announced on Wednesday's episode of Ellen.

"Oh, you're not coming back at all?" a shocked DeGeneres asked.

TV's most stylist characters

"I'm not coming back at all," said Green, who is preparing to go on tour with Lionel Richie. "I just don't want to wear out my welcome there, you know what I'm saying? I have so many other things that I want to do. I haven't released an album in four years. I'm almost done with my album."

"We'll appreciate the music but we'll miss you on The Voice," DeGeneres said. "I had no idea. I just thought you were taking a leave. But you're going to be amazing at anything you do."

"I didn't mean to drop the bomb today," Green admitted.

The Goodie Mob singer was an original coach on The Voice alongside Christina AguileraAdam Levine and Blake Shelton. He was often accompanied by his pet sidekicks Purrfect the Cat and Lady Bird, who will both be deeply missed.

Along with Aguilera, Green took a break from Season 4 and the upcoming Season 6, with Shakiraand Usher filling in. During his four-season tenure, Green never managed to coach a winning singer.

The Voice returns Monday, Feb. 24 at 8/7c. Will you miss CeeLo?
