On Monday's episode of CastleBeckett and Castle took some big steps forward in their wedding planning — but not without a few speed bumps.
While investigating the death of an assistant to iconic fashion editor Matilda King (guest star Frances Fisher), Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett (Stana Katic) each made individual strides in making their impending nuptials a success. While Castle tried to lock down the perfect venue, the Cordova House, Matilda called on former model Beckett to fill in for an emergency fitting of a bridal gown. But even though Beckett made quite the blushing bride-to-be, the moment suddenly took a much more serious turn.

"We thought it was appropriate, given the fact that Beckett lost her mom, to have a moment where she acknowledges that her mother isn't part of the wedding planning," creator Andrew W. Marlowe tells TVGuide.com. "This is something that mothers and daughters usually do together. There's this moment where [Matilda's] looking at Beckett like a daughter. I think that keys Beckett to realize she and Castle have been doing all this planning, and that she has this hole that she hasn't acknowledged. It sneaks up on her, but when it hits, it hits like an anvil and it sends her a little bit off balance."Beckett is so thrown that, when Castle learns the Cordova House is only available for a spring wedding, Beckett pumps the brakes. Fortunately, as viewers no doubt saw in that touching final scene, this was merely a minor setback. "I think we get to a very sweet moment at the end," Marlowe says. "It really isn't about [Beckett needing] more time. It's about Beckett acknowledging how her mother would feel about Castle and recapturing the enthusiasm. When we're in the midst of these moments, we all end up being caught surprised by unexpected feelings and emotions. We thought this was an honest way to examine that."In fact, it seems Marlowe isn't terribly interested in slowing down the Beckett-Castle wedding train at all. "We spent a lot of time in the past five and a half years dealing with Beckett dipping her toes in relationship waters and Beckett holding back," Marlowe says. "It felt like if she was going to have cold feet that, that was returning to a very familiar story. We wanted to be honest, but we didn't want to throw the relationship in doubt because I don't think either one of them has doubts about the relationship at this moment. ... To put that kind of a strain on the relationship feels a little bit like bitter or resentful conflict, and that just isn't where we are on our storytelling right now."

Does that mean Marlowe is becoming more clear about when his two protagonists will be walking down the aisle? "The characters are getting a little more committal," Marlowe continues. "You heard Castle halfway through the episode say that he's wasted enough time and that he just wants to get to the other side because that's where he want to be in life. So, we're watching a process of something that was very theoretical for the two of them at the beginning of the season starting to crystallize. I think that there are going to be other issues that come up, but I think that the characters have a sense of where they want to head."Indeed, by the end of the episode, Castle and Beckett do agree to move the wedding up from the fall to the spring. And thanks to a gift from Matilda King, Beckett already has her wedding dress. So, should fans be saving the date for a wedding as we head toward the Season 6 finale?"I think that's what the characters are thinking," Marlowe says with a laugh. "I think the characters are thinking about a wedding this spring that would fall within our air dates."What did you think of the episode? Do you think Castle and Beckett will make it down the aisle this season?Castle airs Mondays at 10/9c on ABC.
