The NFL's Superman has been grounded, at least for now. Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was injured in a two-car crash in Charlotte, N.C. Tuesday afternoon., ESPN reports.

Newton was alert but in pain at the scene of the accident, and sustained multiple fractures to his back. Newton, along with the other driver, were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Newton was recently in the news on Sunday, when he and the Panthers trounced the New Orleans Saints. A celebration by Newton, including his trademark Superman move, sparked a brawl between the two teams. The Panthers are currently one game out of the division lead in the NFC South.
