Necessary Roughness star Callie Thorne used to be the only full-time woman on her show's otherwise all-guy acting squad. But now she's got a female ally in Karissa Lee Staples, who joined the cast this season as Dr. Dani's feisty new assistant, Paloma. If you ask them, they couldn't make a better team.
TV Guide Magazine: How did you two first meet?
Callie Thorne: We were shooting promos. I came up from behind Karissa and was like, "Oh, my God, you're so pretty! You're fired!" How dare they bring in someone pretty!
Karissa Lee Staples: And yet I'm still here! Callie was absolutely warm and welcoming. We started laughing right away.
TV Guide Magazine: Did that rapport change your characters' relationship?
Thorne: There was going to be an All About Eve thing between Dani and Paloma, where the older woman is more advanced in her career and the younger one wants to be her. But when the writers saw that we got along so well, our characters became much more like buddy cops.
Staples: They're two strong women, and now we get to be powerful together. It's something you don't see often.
TV Guide Magazine: Will they join forces to suss out what dirty dealings are happening behind the scenes at their employer, the celebrity agency V3?
Thorne: Dani and Paloma are both thrown into doing a little bit of espionage. The question is, will they band together?
TV Guide Magazine: Callie, did you give Karissa any advice?
Thorne: I certainly didn't have to give her any advice about how to handle the boys. She got that immediately on Day 1 when they were all sidling up to her and batting their eyes. She's so savvy — there's not much I can teach Karissa.
Staples: We love each other.
Thorne: As if you couldn't tell that already!
