Brothers & Sisters
Ryan Devlin is a big believer in silver linings.
That's because the 30-year-old actor, who last week began a multiple-episode arc on Brothers & Sisters after high-profile recurring roles on Grey's Anatomy and Cougar Town, is keeping busy despite being dropped from CBS' $#*! My Dad Says before the original pilot ever aired.

"I can't really say anything about how it went down except that it just happens a lot," Devlin tells TVGuide.com. "I had a great time doing it, but I couldn't be happier doing what I'm doing right now. I absolutely have no regrets — I think it worked out the way it was supposed to."Things are definitely looking up. Devlin's original four-episode arc on Brothers & Sisters —
which continues Sunday when Kitty (Calista Flockhart
) decides to take Devlin's character, her new college student boy toy Seth, to the Walker family Christmas — has been expanded to at least eight episodes."In some capacity it looks like Seth is going to be kicking around," Devlin says. "I attribute it to the producers recognizing what Calista and I have. We have a pretty good on-screen chemistry; we have a lot of fun together. I think they like what Seth does to Kitty. He kind of shakes her out of her comfort zone and makes her do crazy things."

Indeed, Kitty and Seth's hookup in a coffee shop storeroom was more than a little out of character for the former wife of a U.S. senator.Yet Devlin says Kitty's willingness to introduce Seth to the family indicates that there's more to the relationship than sex. But of course, Kitty's siblings are going to have a field day with the fact that she's sleeping with one of her students."The age difference is definitely an issue — for Kitty and for the family," Devlin says. "It's just something you can't ignore. ... The underlying elephant in the room is this age issue between us, and at times that's what makes things fun for Kitty and Seth. And at times that's what really could prove disastrous for them."Devlin also hints that lingering memories of Robert (Rob Lowe
), who Kitty chose to take off life support after a year in the season premiere, will also play a part in the development of Kitty's relationship with Seth. But Seth isn't just another rebound, Devlin says.

"They're starting to realize that there's more to it; they actually have a true connection," Devlin says. "It's bittersweet for Kitty. The weight [of Robert's death] has been lifted, but it's a scary time for Kitty because she's without that anchor."
Even though Seth survives his first Walker Christmas, the couple can look forward to one major challenge in the new year that we dare not spoil here. But despite whatever outside factors come into play, Devlin says the couple's core relationship will continue to flourish.
"Their relationship is going to turn into a bit of a circus," Devlin says. "And as soon as you start to pull one little thread it's easy for the whole thing to come [unraveled]. But it's more about how they handle the watchful eye of the public than anything that happens between them behind closed doors."
Brothers & Sisters airs Sunday at 10/9c on ABC.
