Brooke Burke-Charvet has no qualms about showing off the scar from her thyroid cancer surgery.
"This is a first for me today," she said. "I've been scarf-ing it up. But you know what, it's fresh. It's a month old, and I think scars tell a story. And I'm so fortunate.
"I'm one of the lucky ones," she continued. "It was shocking. I never thought I would hear the word cancer in relation to myself."
Seven days after undergoing thyroid cancer surgery, Burke learned that her cancer had been removed from her body and she was cancer-free. Burke has been very candid throughout the ordeal, and her recovery is no exception. The mother of four has shared how she's progressing on Twitter, a process which currently consists of marathoning Homeland and eating old Halloween candy.
"The message really is about preventative health because I had no symptoms," she says. "And generally, thyroid cancer is very subtle symptoms. I went for a regular physical."
