Lifetime is continuing its run of '90s nostalgia biopics with a Britney Spears-centered movie titled Britney.
The network announced on Wednesday that it has cast Natasha Bassett as the pop princess in a new biopic that starts filming in Vancouver next month. The TV movie will focus on Spears' rise to fame as a teenager, her turbulent public relationship with Justin Timberlake, her publicized meltdown and subsequent rebound back to pop stardom.
According to Lifetime the film will also document Spears' 55-hour marriage to Jason Alexander and her relationship with Kevin Federline, with whom she has two children. Anne-Marie Hess will pen the script with Leslie Libman (Manson's Lost Girls) directing.
The announcement comes as Spears is about to release her ninth studio album, Glory. The pop starlet will also be featured in a "Carpool Karaoke" segment on The Late Late Show with James Corden on Thursday, followed up by a live performance at the MTV VMAs on Sunday, Aug. 28.
Bassett is an Australian actress who appeared in the Down Under version of Rake, as well as NBC's short-lived comedy Camp and the Coen Brothers' Hail Caesar!.
This is the second announced Lifetime TV movie in two days. Earlier in the week, Lifetime revealed it was making a new TV movie based on the life of suspected murderer Robert Durst.
