Box Office: Monsters University Tops World War Z

Brad Pitt may do battle with zombies in his new film World War Z, but monsters of another sort prevailed in the box office battle. Pixar's Monsters University, the animated sequel to Monsters, Inc., topped World War Z at the box office, bringing in $82 million, Box Office Mojo reports. World War Z landed in second place with $66 million.

Last week's No. 1 movie, Man of Steel, plummeted nearly 65 percent in its second week, coming in third with $41.2 million, while This Is the End dropped to fourth place with $13 million for week two.

Rounding out the top five was Now You See Me with $7.87 million.

Fast & Furious 6 came in at No. 6 with $4.7 million. With $3.42 million, The Internship (No. 7) narrowly bested The Purge, which raked in $3.41 million for an eighth-place finish.

After six weeks in theaters, Star Trek Into Darkness still landed in the top 10, coming in at No. 9 with $3 million, as did Iron Man 3 after eight weeks in theaters (No. 10, $2.17 million).
