Man of Steel, the latest installment in the Superman franchise, soared past the competition at the box office this weekend, easily taking the No. 1 spot and setting a new record for June, according to Box Office Mojo.
Through Sunday, Man of Steel (which premiered Thursday night in several markets) hauled in a whopping $125.1 million, making it the second-highest film opening of 2013 behind Iron Man 3. It also surpassed Toy Story 3 to earn the best opening ever for a film in June.
Fast & Furious 6 raked in $9.4 million for a fourth-place finish, while last week's number one film, The Purge, had about a 75 percent drop-off from its first week, landing at No. 5 with $8.2 million.
