Box Office: Jack the Giant Slayer Tops Slow Weekend

Jack the Giant Slayer opened at the No. 1 spot at the box office with $28 million, according to Box Office Mojo. The $195 million-budget modern take on the classic tale stars Nicholas Hoult as the titular character, as well as Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci and Ian McShane.

Jack the Giant Slayer opened at the No. 1 spot at the box office with $28 million, according to Box Office Mojo.

The $195 million-budget modern take on the classic tale stars Nicholas Hoult as the titular character, as well as Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci and Ian McShane.

Coming in second was the comedy Identity Thief, which raked in $9.7 million, bringing its four-week gross to $107.4 million.
In the No. 3 spot was the slapstick comedy 21 and Over with $9 million. Right behind was the thriller The Last Exorcism Part II with $8 million. 

15 canceled shows we want to bring back

Snitch, starring Dwayne Johnson, came in fifth, making $7.7 million, edging out Escape from Planet Earth, which grossed $6.7 million.

Rounding out the top 10: Safe Haven(No. 7, $6.3 million), Silver Linings Playbook (No. 8, $5.9 million), A Good Day to Die Hard (No. 9, $4.5 million) and Dark Skies (No. 10, $3.6 million).
