Superheroes dominate the box office once again.

X-Men: Apocalypse took the top spot over Memorial Day weekend, trouncing Disney's Alice Through the Looking Glass, according to Box Office Mojo. The X-Men sequel debuted with a cool $65 million, which is $30 million behind its predecessor X-Men: Days of Future Past. Disney's Alice sequel opened in a distant second with $28 million, well below Alice in Wonderland's opening weekend haul of $116 million in 2010.

The Angry Birds Movie came in third with $18.7 million, while fellow second-week-ers Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising fell to No. 5 ($9.1 million) and The Nice Guys dropped to No. 7 ($6.4 million). The rest of the list was filled out by the Jodie Foster-directed Money Monster at No. 8 with $4.3 million and Love & Friendship at No. 9 with $2.5 million.
