Is Red the new black?

NBC has ordered an additional nine episodes of The Blacklist, making it the first freshman drama of the 2013-2014 season to get a full 22-episode season.

The Blacklist is centered on the unique working relationship between one of the FBI's most-wanted fugitives, Red Reddington (James Spader) and FBI profiler Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone). The series' first two episodes averaged 10 million viewers and a 3.6 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic.

More must-watch new shows

"The many layers of Red Reddington and his mysterious reasons for getting into bed with the FBI seem to be fascinating to fans of this show," Jennifer Salke, NBC's President of Entertainment, said in a statement. "With great talent like James Spader and Megan Boone on board, as well our stellar executive producers and the whole cast and crew, we believe this outstanding series will continue to make NBC a big destination on Monday nights."

Friday also marked the 2013-2014 season's first cancellation, which went to the ABC drama Lucky 7. On Thursday, Fox renewed Sleepy Hollow for a 13-episode second season. The only other freshman series that has received a full season order is The Michael J. Fox Show — which received the order when it was first picked up by NBC in August 2012.

The Blacklist airs Mondays at 10/9c on NBC. Are you excited for more?
