In a stunning about-face, CBS now says it was duped over the authenticity of those much-disputed documents challenging President Bush's military service. In a statement, CBS News president Andrew Heyward said, "In the wake of serious and disturbing questions that came up after the [60 Minutes] broadcast, [we]... cannot prove that the documents are authentic. We should not have used them. That was a mistake, which we deeply regret." Dan Rather also issued a statement, saying, "We made a mistake in judgment, and for that I am sorry. Please know that nothing is more important to us than people's trust in our ability and our commitment to report fairly and truthfully." I can't be sure, but I think this means that Les Moonves is gonna banish Rather to Showtime.
