Beauty and the Beast Finale: Jay Ryan Teases the Big Revelation and a Beastly Showdown

Who will be the victor when beast Gabe and Vincent duke it out in the final minutes of the Beauty and the Beast finale Thursday (9/8c, The CW)? "There is one character who may go down at the end and you don't know whether they survive or not," Jay Ryan, who plays Vincent Keller, tells TVGuide.com.

Exclusive Beauty and the Beast Video: How Will Gabe Capture Catherine?

Although Vincent and Catherine (Kristin Kreuk) are finally aware that Gabe (Sendhil Ramamurthy) is also a beast born out of Muirfield's experiments, they're in for a rude awakening when they learn that Gabe's life depends on Vincent's death. "There's a revelation that yes, medication may work [for the beasts], but what Gabe needs from Vincent in order to survive and carry on will possibly cause Vincent his life," Ryan says. "So the stakes are back up again. Vincent is currently in this love bubble, so the saving grace is J.T. who breaks him out of it."

In the first act of the episode, Gabe kidnaps Catherine (see the clip here) in order to lure Vincent in. From there on it's straight action as Vincent works to find and save Cat and of course, himself. The biggest problem? Vincent doesn't quickly morph into beast-mode due to the medication he's been taking. "His strength is weakened," says Ryan. "He doesn't have his beast qualities so he has to refer back to his military training and you'll see Vincent vulnerable trying to find Catherine in a human kind of way."

Both Ryan and Ramamurthy tease that the final 10 minutes of the show is an epic battle between the two characters. "We spent three days on the sequence with huge cranes, a full stunt team, guns, explosions — we kept up the neighborhood where we were shooting," Ryan says. "Sendhil and I had to be in prosthetics for 15-hour days, three days in a row. I usually have to put in my beast vocals for ADR (automated dialogue replacement) for a three-minute scene but this was for nine-and-a-half minutes!"

In the end, one character may be gone and another will be introduced.  "There's a big revelation of a new character in the last 30 seconds," Ryan adds. "With this new character I think there is some really great opportunity for Vincent to be engulfed in his past with Muirfield, maybe sucked back in and who knows what they could do to him? I really want to see the beast abused by Muirfield and probe back into experiments and maybe give him new qualities."

And don't worry, there's also a Vincent-Catherine moment to look forward to as well. "In the closing moments of the finale, the last [scene] between Catherine and Vincent is pretty heartfelt — and leaves a wide net open of questions of where they're going next."

The Beauty and the Beast finale airs on Thursday at 9/8c on The CW.
