The Beastie Boys' Adam "MCA" Yauch has a "very treatable" form of cancer that will force the group to cancel all upcoming performances and delay the release of its upcoming album, Yauch and his bandmates said in a statement.

The group said Yauch, 44, was diagnosed last week with a cancerous tumor in his left salivary gland. He said it would not affect his vocal chords.

"I just need to take a little time to get this in check, and then we'll release the record and play some shows. It's a pain in the neck (sorry had to say it) because I was really looking forward to playing these shows, but the doctors have made it clear that this is not the kind of thing that can be put aside to deal with later," Yauch said in a statement.

Yauch, who has the growliest voice and, arguably, the smoothest flow of the group, shared the news with fans in a relatively upbeat video with fellow Beastie Adam "Ad Rock" Horovitz:

The group's upcoming album is entitled Hot Sauce Committee Part 1. Last year Yauch directed the documentary, Gunnin For That #1 Spot.
