When a 5-year-old boy's one wish is to become Batman, the residents of San Francisco make it happen.

Miles was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia when he was 20 months old, but has been in remission after finishing his chemotherapy in June. Through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Miles wished to become Batman, according to the SF Gate, and San Francisco obliged by transforming the city into Batman's hometown of Gotham.

25 unnecessary spin-offs

Thousands of volunteers and spectators cheered young Miles — who has been dubbed BatKid — on Friday as he was transported throughout the city in his very own Batmobile to fight crime and respond to distress calls. With his younger brother dressed as Robin, Miles took down Batman's classic nemeses the Riddler and the Penguin.

The #SFBatKid Twitter feed was filled with photos and videos from the event. Even those not participating in the day got in on the action online, including BaneKid, BatKid's nemesis!
