Barbara Walters Hospitalized After Falling

Barbara Walters

Barbara Walters was hospitalized Saturday after falling on a stair and cutting her forehead, Politico reports.

Walters, 83, was visiting the British Ambassador's residence in Washington D.C. Saturday evening when the accident occurred. "Out of an abundance of caution, she went to the hospital to have her cut tended to, have a full examination and remains there for observation," Jeffrey W. Schneider, senior vice president of ABC News, said in a statement. "Barbara is alert (and telling everyone what to do), which we all take as a very positive sign."

Walters was unable to take part in ABC's coverage of the Presidential Inauguration Sunday and will not be on the air Monday either. She could miss several days of work because of the injury.

Walters was last hospitalized in May 2010, when she underwent open heart surgery to replace a faulty heart valve. She returned to work four months later.
