ABC has found its new Bachelor.
Jake Pavelka, a pilot who failed to achieve liftoff with Jillian Harris on the most recent season of The Bachelorette, will be handing out the roses on The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love. The announcement was made during Tuesday's Dancing with the Stars result show.
Production on the show begins soon, and Pavelka told People he's excited to weed out the 25 women who'll be cat-fighting for his affection. "I've dated some really amazing girls, but I've never been successful at finding that one girl," he said, "and I saw how the whole thing comes together, the process with Jillian. I saw how the process works and I believe in it. That's a unique way to meet somebody."
Harris said Pavelka will make a fine Bachelor. "Jake has a huge heart and he's very sensitive," she said. "He isn't afraid to show his emotions. The world will see how far he is willing to go to find the right person."
Harris eliminated Pavelka because she feared he was too perfect. He is perhaps best known for his return to the show after being sent home to accuse country singer Wes, another contender, of having a girlfriend.
Poll results: Who should be the next Bachelor?
The announcement comes after weeks of Internet speculation. A previous TVGuide.com poll showed strong fan support for other Bachelorette runner-ups Kiptyn Locke and Reid Rosenthal.
The new season of The Bachelor begins in January 2010.
