The Bachelor's Chris Harrison: Juan Pablo Didn't Understand How Cheap He Made Clare Feel

The Bachelor's Juan Pablo is confusing the women — and making them cry — yet again. On Monday's episode, Clare showed up at Juan Pablo's hotel room in the middle of the night for some scandalous swimming. But while Juan Pablo was very much into the late-night swim at the time, during the cocktail party he told Clare he never should've allowed it to happen. A few tears from both Clare and Juan Pablo later, host Chris Harrison is weighing in on the awkward situation and sharing what he told the Bachelor during the un-aired deliberation.

How was Vietnam?
Chris Harrison:
It's one of the coolest, most spectacular places I've ever been. The people were phenomenal and just so loving and inclusive.

Renee finally got a one-on-one date. She seems the most "normal" of the bunch!
Harrison:
Yeah. When Juan Pablo showed up at the house two episodes ago, and everyone had no makeup on and they were like, "Oh my gosh!" and Renee is just like, "Hey, good morning!" She's a normal woman, a mom; she has perspective. But at the end of the day that's what Juan Pablo says he wants, but is that something Juan Pablo really wants?

The Bachelor's Chris Harrison: Juan Pablo is sending mixed messages to the girls

Right now it seems very easy between them.
Harrison:
They are a good match and nothing will change that, but it's just a matter of him choosing that life. He's very cognizant of the single moms there and has said if he's not sure then he should let them go.

Clare got more than her fair share of Juan Pablo time during the group date. Is she hogging his time or does he just like her a lot?
Harrison:
Both, I mean she's totally monopolizing his time, and he's totally into her. But that's what sets up the bizarreness of his actions with her when he throws a curveball [after their swim session].

About that. He made her feel horrible!
Harrison: When she showed up he was fully into it like this is awesome and sexy and she was as happy as can be and then he turns around and treats her like all of a sudden she did something wrong and broke the rules. It was not only confusing, but it was borderline rude. We even told him as much, but he didn't see it that way. Even though he apologized later I don't think he really understood how cheap he made her feel. In my deliberation I said, "You're not getting this, you really hurt her feelings, you need to fix it and apologize." But there are cultural differences with him and things do get lost in translation and how it's interpreted. It's his perspective; it's not right or wrong. So it made for interesting conversations and I had to learn to stand back a little bit and respect that.

The Bachelor's Juan Pablo on Jealousy in Week 3: The girls know what they signed up for

It's interesting how Courtney was vilified for skinny-dipping with Ben, yet Juan Pablo looks like the bad guy in this situation.
Harrison:
I'm always surprised by fan's reactions. It'll be interesting to see how people perceive him after this week's episode. You've seen [chinks] in his armor already, but I wonder what people will now think about how he treats everyone and goes about things. But this is who he is and what he says and you'll see it, warts and all.

Last season at this time Catherine was still under the radar. Is there anyone like that this season?
Harrison:
I think Juan Pablo is more obvious about who he likes. Sean was also young and didn't know as well who he was yet and what he was looking for. Juan Pablo is more comfortable in understanding who he is as a man, as a father, and what kind of woman he's looking for.

Juan Pablo actually teared up at the rose ceremony. I think it's the earliest a Bachelor has cried.
Harrison:
I think he just really doesn't like hurting people. The rose ceremonies are very personal to him and he never quite got comfortable with it. From here on out it gets really hard for him.

The Bachelor airs on Mondays at 8/7c on ABC.
