Ariel Winter's long battle over her own guardianship is over. The Modern Family star, 17, was granted full emancipation on Friday.
"I am now officially emancipated!!!" Winter tweeted.
Winter had been living with her older sister Shanelle Gray since 2012, when the actress accused her mother Chrisoula Workman of being physically and emotionally abusive. At the time of the initial claims, Gray was named Winter's temporary guardian, but became her permanent guardian last year.
"I'm really lucky I have an amazing support system and lovely people in my life who have given me the support and guidance to have been given this wonderful opportunity," Winter continued. "Most importantly I want to thank @shanelle_gray and my father for their special support regarding this matter, I really couldn't have done it without them."
Workman initially fought Winter's claims against her, but the family reached a settlement agreement last May before the case would have gone to trail.
"Thank you to all of my family, friends, and fans who have supported me through all of my endeavors in life, and have encouraged me," Winter wrote. "Thank you for making my life so special! I can't wait to embark on my new adventures. Xo."
