How Did Anthony Geary Say Goodbye on General Hospital?

Talk about an underwhelming exit

Anthony Geary has left Port Charles.

After a 37-year run on General Hospital, Geary's final episode was pretty anti-climactic. In fact, for a guy who has done everything from saving the world to being a part of the most-watched moment in daytime television history, he had barely any screen time in his final hour. In the end, Luke seemed to make peace with his daughter Lulu (Emme Rylan) after confiding in mobster Sonny Corinthos(Maurice Benard) that it was time for him to leave Port Charles behind.

"I need to go away and get myself together; find out who the hell I'm going to be the rest of my life," Luke said. "The demons keep swirling around in my head. I've caused too much damage with Tracy and my family."

Fortunately, as he was telling Sonny to pass along a message for his daughter, she appeared. "I'm sorry I was never a contender for Father of the Year," he said.

"You took the title. You always knew when I needed you," she responded.

In the final moments, Luke told Sonny to take care and his final words, with tears in his eyes, were, "Goodbye, Port Charles. Good luck to you."

For some TVGuide.com users, Geary's exit wasn't what they had hoped for.

As for what Geary thought about his ending, he recently told the LA Times, "They've given me a terrific wrap for my character. He's been a difficult, eclectic character to find a logical motivating conclusion for, but they've done that."
