Anthony Bourdain says he received scary hate mail after bashing Paula Deen.
"A year ago, before she announced that she has diabetes, I dared to suggest that the food she was advocating was dangerous for you, and I received a lot of scary mail and Facebook posts," Bourdain says in this week's Rolling Stone, obtained by Us Weekly. "It was the first time I've ever been frightened."
In August, Bourdain said that Deen, aka The Butter Queen, was "proud of the fact that her food is f---ing bad for you." "I would think twice before telling an already obese nation that it's OK to eat food that is killing us. Plus, her food sucks," he said.

Anthony Bourdain: Giving up cigarettes "has in no way improved my life"

After Deen revealed in January that she was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes three years ago, Bourdain immediately spoke up about it. "When your signature dish is hamburger in between a doughnut, and you've been cheerfully selling this stuff knowing all along that you've got Type 2 diabetes ... it's in bad taste if nothing else," he told Eater at the time. But Bourdain admits to Rolling Stone he needs to keep his thoughts to himself sometimes."I don't know what my problem is, honestly," Bourdain says. "Why can't I just live and let live? It's a personal failing."
