Charles, who had cancer, was hospitalized for pneumonia about a month ago, according to her mother, Mary Cardona.
Charles, who shared an extended dance sequence with John Travolta in Grease, went on to become a speech professor at California State University Northridge, in Northridge, Calif. Her other screen credits include appearances on The Bionic Woman, Magnum, P.I., The Incredible Hulk and The Flying Nun.
Charles is the second Grease actor to pass away this year — Jeff Conaway, who played Kenickie, died at age 60 in May.
