"American Pie" singer Don McLean was arrested in Camden, Maine, for alleged misdemeanor domestic violence after police were called the home he shares with his wife Patrisha McLean early Monday morning. The Portland Press Herald reports that McLean was booked in Knox County Jail and then released on $10,00 bail. Police told WCSH 6that McLean was charged with the lowest level of assault crime. He is scheduled to appear in Knox County District Court on Feb. 22.

McLean married Patrisha, a photographer, in 1987, and they have two children. In 2015, McLean made $1.2 million by selling a 16-page manuscript with the original lyrics to his classic song. "I'm going to be 70 this year," McLean told Rolling Stone at the time. "I have two children and a wife, and none of them seem to have the mercantile instinct. I want to get the best deal that I can for them. It's time."

McLean's reps had not released a statement at the time of publishing.
