American Pharoah won the Belmont Stakes Saturday, becoming the first horse to win the Triple Crown since 1978, The Associated Press reports.

The horse jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, completing the 1.5-mile track in 2:26.65, beating runner-up Frosted by 5.5 lengths.

American Pharoah previously won the Kentucky Derby on May 2 and the Preakness on May 16.

This is also the first Triple Crown for jockey Victor Espinoza, on his third attempt.
