Idol's Dexter Roberts Talks Exit, Prank War with Sam Woolf

Dexter Roberts doesn't have any music-related regrets about his time on American Idol, but he is disappointed that he didn't have a chance to get revenge on fellow contestant Sam Woolf for pranking him earlier in the season.

"He zip-tied me to a chair at this restaurant [by] my belt loop," Roberts tells TVGuide.com. "So, when I got up, I took the chair with me. So I was like, yeah, I'm going to get him. But I never did. ... When the tour comes, [he's] getting it."

Roberts — who made it to the Top 7 before being sent home last week —  eventually hopes to relocate to Nashville to pursue a music career full-time. Though he's "bummed" to miss out on this week's theme of "A Little Bit Country, A Little Bit Rock 'n' Roll" (in which each contestant will perform two songs — one country, one rock), Roberts never expected to make it past the early rounds on Idol and addsis grateful for the judges' feedback.

Idol's Malaya explains why she almost didn't audition

"Every bit of advice they gave me was great," Roberts says. "Everybody else was like, 'Oh man, I hate it when they say something bad about me,' or 'I hate it when they're trying to critique you really bad.' I love it, because it helps me be a better artist. Each week I'm like, 'Yes, tell me something new I can work on.'"

1. Name three albums you would bring with you to a desert island. I'd bring some rock ... some blues like Eric Clapton. And I would bring something really loud to scare the animals away. I'd like to have some Craig Morgan and some Eric Church.

2. What was the first album you fell in love with? The first song was "Boot Scootin' Boogie" by Brooks & Dunn. My mom had a cassette tape. It was in her car. I would tear that song up. And then one day the tape ripped. Oh man, it was a bad day. I was a little kid. I cried and cried and cried.

3. If someone wanted to torture you with a song on repeat, what would it be? I remember this one time, I got in trouble when I was in high school ... and had to go to in-school suspension. I went in there and I was doing my work, and there was this song. It was some opera song. I can still hear it in my sleep at nighttime some time. This guy, he was one of the coaches. And he would turn it on just because we shouldn't have been in there. He wanted to make it miserable, where we wouldn't want to come back in there. It wasn't Beethoven, but it was some opera music. It was real high-pitched strings and then it'd come down to, like, a banjo or something. It was a mesh of stuff, and it was so out of tune. ... It was some kind of joke song. But oh, it was awful.

4. Name a song you wish you'd written. "Almost Home" by Craig Morgan

5. If you could duet with anyone living or dead, who would you pick? Elvis Presley

6. What's your most embarrassing karaoke or singing experience? When I was younger, about 8, I started learning how to sing and play guitar at the same time. My grandma had this cassette player, and it was a recorder. You could put tapes in there and record yourself. I recorded, and it sounded terrible. Off-pitch. It was awful. And one of my ex-girlfriends, we were having — I think it was Thanksgiving or something. We were looking through all kinds of stuff, and she found some kind of cassette player. I went into the bathroom and I was washing my hands because I was about to eat. She turned it on, and my whole family was there, her family was there. Everybody was there. They turned it on, and it sounded so bad. I was so embarrassed. I ran all the way from the bathroom and came and got it. I about ripped it in half trying to get it to turn off.

7. What's your favorite album or song that you're listening to currently? "It Goes Like This" by Thomas Rhett Atkins, Jr.

8. What song or artist made you want to be a singer? Really every country artist. I've always looked up to all them. I watched CMT all the time ... to see what new song I could learn. They've made it. They followed a dream and they kept pushing for it and did it.

9. What's your biggest musical guilty pleasure? I think I've got one of the Backstreet Boys' songs on my iPod. "I Want It That Way." I sung it. But I like the Backstreet Boys. They've got great harmonies.

10. What's one song you would have loved to perform on Idol that you didn't get to? "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing" by Aerosmith
