AMC has ordered two drama pilots, one from Criminal Minds and Cold Case producer Chris Mundy and one produced by Scandal star Tony Goldwyn, the cable channel announced Thursday.

Low Winter Sun, from writer-producer Mundy and Greg Brenman, is based on the 2006 two-part British miniseries of the same name starring Mark Strong. The project centers on the murder of a cop by a fellow Detroit detective, who is subsequently pulled into the Detroit underworld.

13 Promising Pilots: New shows from Kevin Bacon, Connie Britton, Ryan Murphy and Mindy Kaling

The Untitled LaGravanese & Goldwyn Project comes from Goldwyn and executive producer and writer Richard LaGravanese (Water for Elephants, Bridges of Madison County). The legal thriller follows a District Attorney who comes across new evidence that reopens a sensational murder case. Goldwyn, who plays the President on Scandal and is also known for his roles on Justified, The Pelican Briefand Ghost, will serve as an executive producer and director. Andrew Sugarman (Conviction) will serve as a co-executive producer.

"Both of these shows represent an opportunity to continue what our existing scripted series have established so well -- a commitment to great writing, and shows that tackle complex characters in a genuine and authentic way," Joel Stillerman, AMC's EVP of original programming, production and digital content, said in a statement. "Richard and Tony have collaborated on an explosive piece of storytelling that explores race and capital punishment in a way that transcends the legal genre; and Chris has captured the strength and intensity of the source material to create a muscular, Detroit-based character piece that explores the themes of such diverse stories as Crime and Punishment and Heat."
