The Amazing Spider-Man Sets Tuesday Opening Box Office Record

The Amazing Spider-Man had an amazing opening day at the box office, grossing $35 million domestically on Tuesday, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Marc Webb-directed reboot beat previous record holder Transformers, which grossed $27.9 on the same Tuesday in 2007.

The film, which cost Sony $220 million to produce, takes the comic book franchise back to the beginning when Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) is in high school. Emma Stone, Denis Leary, Sally Field, Martin Sheen and Rhys Ifans also star. 

The flick also fared well abroad and raked in $50 million in just 11 territories.
