It was an amazing déjà vu. For the second time in four seasons, the beach-set first leg onThe Amazing Race ended with the last three teams, including a pair of firefighters, taking a four-hour penalty on a Roadblock. While the firefighters got the boot on Season 22, Michael and Scott edged out realtor sisters Lisa and Michelle on Friday's Season 25 premiere, thanks to some cab-shoving. But there are no hard feelings. "If I had to throw them out of a cab, I would've done the same thing," Lisa tells TVGuide.com. Keep reading to see what they have to say about their elimination, how long they dug for and if Lisa really thinks the sun sets in the East.
Lisa: We didn't. Getting in the last cab made it difficult to catch up.Michelle: We were all pretty close. We jumped into cabs around the same time, but unfortunately our cab driver was going very, very slow, so we were a few minutes behind. We knew we were last. What happened with the cab fight? Michael was already in the cab, so you couldn't have gotten that cab anyway unless he got out.
Michelle: We actually got to the cab first, but he pushed us away and got into the cab, and then Scott got there. He closed the door on us, so we had to jump into the next cab. They said they did that because you ripped the marker out of their hands earlier.
Michelle: If you look at it, we got to the board before them. They grabbed the pen and we grabbed the pen out of their hands because we got their first. It is what it is. Everyone wants to win. We don't regret doing that or anything. If I had to throw them out of a cab, I would've done the same thing.Lisa: It didn't have anything to do with the marker situation. Whoever got in that third cab would've pretty much been screwed, so we knew we had to get that second cab.Why were you so confident that you'd be able to outrun the firefighters?
Lisa: We work out a lot. We did outrun them. We trained hard for the show. We run every single day and we didn't think they could run.Do you regret taking the penalty? It didn't seem like you thought it over too much when Keith and Whitney proposed it.
Lisa: Yeah, I regret taking the penalty. I probably wouldn't have done it again. It's just tough. You're on a deserted island. There was no light left when we were there, so we couldn't see anything. We knew we had to stop because there was no light at all. When they suggested the penalty, I thought for sure, we can run, why not take it? But in hindsight, I wish we didn't. We thought once we took the penalty, we would be running to the mat, but it was actually running to a taxi and finding another location. That changed everything.
Lisa: I think it was almost four hours. It was a really long time. My hands were completely raw. Everyone was bleeding. It was very difficult. I did it like 20 times. I kept measuring and kept getting the same exact stop. The compass was backwards and everyone was making the same mistake.Did you ever realize that the compass was backwards?
Lisa: We figured it out within 10 minutes that it was backwards. I looked at my coordinates and realized that if they were right, my treasure would've been in the water. I knew something was wrong. That's when I figured out something was off. ... Jimhad a compass watch, so he immediately knew the compass was backwards. Once everyone got to the island, everyone was helping each other figure it out. Michelle: When we got there, people from the first plane were still digging. That's when we knew it was going to be hard.Lisa: Keith literally dug the entire island. He dug and dug and dug. Keith, Scott and I just kept digging the same spots over and over. Four hours later, it didn't matter that the compass was backwards. We just couldn't measure it exactly and find the treasure. Were you pissed when they showed on the episode that you were just feet away from the chest?
Lisa: Yeah. [Laughs] But what are you going to do? I don't know if it's luck or skill at that point.Did you really think the sun sets in the East and rises in the West?
Lisa: No! What they didn't show was that I said it correctly. I grew up on the water in Miami. I know the sun rises in the East and sets in the West. That was when we were figuring out the compass was reversed. We were going back and forth, and I said that about the compass. So yeah, they just showed the part where I said the opposite without context. So you could be the dumb blonde.
Lisa: Yeah, I figured. Whatever!
Michelle: Working like crazy. Staying busy, which is good. Showing a lot of houses. It was a great experience. The show's amazing — fantastic people. We're friends with all of them now. It's a great season to watch and I'm happy with everyone who made it. It's amazing what you see people do. You see Bethany climb rocks with one arm. That's insane! It's a great show. The firefighters are great guys. We're friends with them now. We have no ill feelings towards them and they have no ill feelings towards us. It's a game. You do anything to win. They don't want to be the first ones out and we understand that.Lisa: No one wants to be the first team eliminated, but someone has to be. Unfortunately! The Amazing Race airs Fridays at 8/7c on CBS.
