Unfortunately, though Survivor: Africa's Carl Bilancione strived hard to pull his weight in the Samburu tribe, the 46-year-old Florida dentist was about as popular there as a root canal.
As viewers saw last week, Carl fell victim to an ageist alliance between twentysomethings Silas, Lindsey, Brandon and Kim. But it wasn't until "Doc" actually watched the show that he realized how tricky they were! One particular scene found bratty Brandon convening his own breakfast club for the youngsters, yet leaving no grub for the mature set, who were off gathering water.
"That's probably the part that shocked me the most," Carl tells TV Guide Online. "I had no clue that they were eating food like that when we weren't around, and then the comments they made. That, I have to be honest, caught me by surprise.
"You know who the weakest ones are Brandon and Lindsay," he adds. "But I don't care if there's dissention or not. You're still a team. I didn't bring water and boil it just for myself, Frank, Linda and Theresa."
Carl's lucrative dental practice also rubbed the money-hungry Gen-Xers the wrong way. Pot-stirrers Silas and Lindsey seemed particularly irked at competing for the $1 million prize with a man who already drives a Mercedes and a Porsche. At this, an incredulous Carl argues: "Silas was the one that instigated it and his dad's an oral surgeon! I want to believe that Silas was afraid of the alliance I had with [the older people] and that if he did come along to our side, we could get rid of him at a later point... Maybe he felt that was too precarious a situation for him to be in. This is only my speculation."
