"Queen of Soul" Slams Beyonce's "Cheap Shot"

Just as Natalie Cole and Amy Winehouse exited the après-Grammys ring, Aretha Franklin pulled Beyoncé in, taking issue with Ms. Knowles' introduction of Tina Turner at Sunday night's awards show.

Setting the stage for her duet with Turner, Beyoncé name-checked Franklin and other high-caliber songstresses before hailing Tina as "one legend who has the essence of all of those things: the glamour, the soul, the passion, the strength, the talent. Ladies and gentlemen... give it up for the queen."

And that was a royal mistake. "I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyoncé," Franklin said in a statement. "However, I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy."
