Neve's Big Bro Returns
The sinking of Darren Star
's The Street
was a tough knock for actor Christian Campbell
, who played an earnest young intern on the Wall Street sudser. "Basically, Fox putting us up against The West Wing
was the kiss of death," he tells TV Guide Online. "That's the way I look at it. I think we had a quality show that could've been very good."
Fortunately, the cheery Campbell who's not only Neve's elder sib, but a refreshing bundle of freckles and smiles in his own right never stays bitter for long. "It's too bad the show wasn't on longer so people could catch on to it," he says, "but I think I got great exposure and, more than anything, it was just a great experience to live in New York."
Chuckling, he adds: "I've been back [in Los Angeles] for three months. Haven't found a place to live yet, I'm just house-sitting and living on couches. It's an exciting life... or maybe I'm just cheap."
At least he's no longer unemployed. Campbell's currently filming Thank You, Good Night with John Paul Pitoc who was his leading man in the 1999 gay romantic comedy, Trick. "We're straight this time," Campbell grins. "It's about a grunge band just coming to terms with the fact that they're not that great, when serendipity hits."
And in a stroke of very creative casting, the indie features the wacky pairing of Sally Kirkland and Gary Busey as Campbell's parents. Plus, he adds perhaps a little too enthusiastically, "We have Nicole Eggert of Baywatch fame!"
