Lionel Richie to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award

This is Lionel Richie's week!

Just two days after American Idol semifinalist David Cook performed a rocked-out version of Richie's 1980s hit "Hello," the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers announced that they would be honoring the former Commodore with a lifetime achievement award. Richie will be presented with the Golden Note Award, which has previously been given to artists such as Tom Petty and Stevie Wonder, next month in a ceremony that will also honor Steve Miller.

ASCAP sees to it that songwriters and artists in their organization receive royalty pay for the use of their music. So in addition to handing Richie an award, they'll also be lining his wallet, thanks to Cook's rousing Idol performance. - Adam Bryant
