Though millions still think of Linda Blair
as that potty-mouthed lil' vessel of Satan featured in 1973's The Exorcist
, the vivacious 41-year-old actress is actually a much pleasanter entity. Indeed, she tends not to levitate or growl, "Keep away, this soul is mine!" during polite conversation. And hold the holy water Evian will do her just fine, thanks.
"I'm proud of the film and I think it's a masterpiece, but it's not who I am," Blair tells TV Guide Online. "That's why it worked, because I was the opposite of what people thought Regan would be. I was the healthy all-American child."
Well, plenty of water not to mention a spicy E! True Hollywood Story profile has flowed under the bridge since then. Nowadays, smiles Blair: "I'm fit, I'm healthy, I like to laugh and I'm seriously committed to human and animal rights." A dedicated activist (and part-time webmistress), she's self-publishing a book called Go Vegan: TheAlternet.com Easy Guide to Healthy Foods.
"People will be able to buy the book on my website or Amazon.com around mid-June," Blair says. "I'm getting it out as fast as possible because of mad cow disease. Mad cow is here it's a matter of when the government's ready to announce it, because there's going to be a whole public outcry. People do not want to hear about taking their meat away from them, and that's very sad."
Her many causes aside, Blair hasn't strayed too far from her scream-queen persona. She currently hosts Scariest Places on Earth airing Fridays at 9 pm/ET on Fox Family a show that dares families to stay the night in haunted locales. "Not one family has made it through the whole night," laughs Blair. "They are truly frightened. I do not like to put myself in situations like these. I definitely think there's something to it."
