Mark David Chapman
's first attempt at parole following the December 1980 murder of ex-Beatle John Lennon
was denied on Tuesday by officials at New York's Attica prison. Documents reviewed in the hearing included a letter from Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono
, who wrote that she and the late rocker's two sons (Sean
) would "not feel safe for the rest of our lives" if the killer were released. Chapman, 45, is serving 20 years to life and won't be eligible for parole again for another two years.
