Grey's Star Heigl: Gizzie Was "a Ratings Ploy"

Katerine Heigl and Knight in Grey's Anatomy by Scott Garfield/ABC
Maybe T.R. won't want to buy that tux just yet. In a deliciously candid interview with
Vanity Fair, Katherine Heigl admits that, like many a
Grey's Anatomy fan, she has scratched her head over the Izzie-George romance. "That was kind of a big change for Izzie, wasn't it, after she was so up on her moral high ground," muses the actress. "They really hurt [Callie], and they didn't seem to be taking a lot of responsibility for it. I have a really hard time with that kind of thing."
So why even go there? Heigl, who herself admits, "I don't really know Izzie very well," also states, "it was a ratings ploy. It was absolutely something that shocked people [and] wasn't predictable." Noting that
Grey's is now in its fourth season and less able to surprise, she surmises, "Business is business... but I want there to be some cooperation between the business and the creative end, so there's some way of keeping it real." Because lord knows, Gizzie has been
unreal!
