Freeman Looks Forward to Heading Home After Crash

Morgan Freeman is recovering from the injuries suffered in a car accident Sunday and looks forward to going home from the hospital soon, his publicist said Tuesday.
The Academy Award-winning actor was still listed in serious condition Tuesday, said Kathy Stringer, a spokeswoman for the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn. Publicist Donna Lee said Freeman had successfully completed surgery on his shoulder, arm, hand and elbow.
"He's good. He's in good spirits. He's trying to get out of there," Lee told TVGuide.com.
She also said in a statement that Freeman spent time with his family Tuesday morning and was up, walking around, and looking forward to leaving the hospital in the next few days.
Freeman, 71, and his passenger, Demaris Meyer, were traveling eastbound on Highway 32, in Tallahatchie County, when the actor's Nissan Maxima veered off the road. Freeman overcorrected and the vehicle flipped several times before coming to a rest. Police say there is no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved.
Freeman suffered a broken arm and elbow, as well as minor shoulder and hand damage.
Freeman's business partner Bill Luckett, described Meyer as a friend of Freeman's. Meyer was "in better condition than Morgan," Luckett told the (Memphis)

Freeman won the Oscar for best supporting actor in 2005 (for his role in
Million Dollar Baby), and has been nominated three other times. —
