What is The Colin Quinn Show? An NBC press release vaguely describes the half hour debuting tonight at 9:30 pm/ET as "a limited series that will feature a topical monologue, sketch comedy elements and guest appearances." Limited is right! The Peacock's giving it an unusual trial by fire, with only an initial three-episode order.
Just kidding around (maybe), Colin Quinn harrumphs: "I think it's really the network slapping me in the face, saying, 'Look, you have three shows.' Let's face it, I've been prominent in this business for many years. I deserve a pickup of 13 like some of these bastards get!
"It's one of those things," the Saturday Night Live alum adds, simmering down. "Because it is live and it is kind of experimental, I guess they figure three will give them a chance to see what it is. And then if it's good, I'm sure it'll get picked up right away. Three's certainly a good enough shot for me if I can't make it [funny] in three, I shouldn't have my own show anyway."
Though SNL creator Lorne Michaels is producing, it's Quinn who's putting his very name on the line. How does the prime-time newbie cope with the pressure? "I do an hour of tai chi naked in my office," Quinn quips. "I've gone through, like, four assistants that way. I don't know what their problem is. They're not spiritual.
"What do I do to deal with the pressure?" he muses. "We're just doing so much work that I can't even deal with it yet. So maybe I'm in shock, like a molestation victim. I'm in shock and someday we'll go into therapy and [deal] with this."
