A joke on last Friday's The Late Late Show
in which a graphic with the words "Snipers Wanted" appeared below an image of Republican presidential candidate George W. Bush
is being condemned by CBS and producer David Letterman
. But both parties are stopping short of blaming host Craig Kilborn
. "The graphic, which was not accompanied by any remarks from Craig Kilborn, should not have been included in the telecast and is not consistent with our broadcast standards," said a joint statement from CBS and Letterman's Worldwide Pants production company. "[We] deeply regret this incident." CBS says it's investigating the matter "and will take appropriate action." A rep for Bush tells the New York Daily News
: "We accept their apology."
