Seth Green's torturous transformations on Buffy the Vampire Slayer as Willow's werewolf ex-beau, Oz were nothing next to what he endured filming Rat Race (opening tomorrow). As two crooked brothers vying to beat out some Las Vegas tourists for a $2 million jackpot, he and newcomer Vince Vieluf did all their own stunts. And how!
According to Green: "Everything you see in the movie stunt-wise, we did authentically and nearly died multiple times doing it. All for your viewing pleasure." The wiseacre adds that their perils included "hanging from a 100-foot crane while swinging into a thousand or more cows and dropping off of a ravine."
Green also boasts of having done "some serious Steve McQueen driving" while shooting the zany farce. In one scene they filmed in remote Canadian woods presumably with no studio flacks present to wring their hands over insurance risks "Vince was attached to the hood of a [speeding] car, while I was running in front of it!"
Kicking back and basking in the glow only doing "guy stuff" can bestow, Green says his real payoff came during Rat Race
's first public screening. "It's difficult to get objective," he says, "because we did all this stuff. So every moment in the movie I saw, I was like, 'Oh yeah, that bruise stayed with me for a month
. Thank God somebody behind me thinks it's funny, 'cause that's all we were trying to do.'"
