Britney Hospitalized for Emergency Mental Evaluation; "Greatly Disabled"

Having checked in to the UCLA Medical Center's psych ward early Thursday morning,
Britney Spears may have been classified as "greatly disabled," a term that can imply involuntary commitment to the hospital, TMZ reports.
Escorted by more than a dozen Los Angeles police officers and a pair of LAPD 'copters, Spears was committed at 1 am Thursday morning, not long after reports surfaced that a psychiatrist declared the beleaguered pop star a danger to herself and others. After being transported by ambulance from her Studio City home to the medical center, Spears was placed on 72-hour emergency "mental evaluation hold" (also known as a 5150) - just as she was on Jan. 3, following that custody-related standoff with police. What brought on this latest intervention? "Britney has been prescribed medication which she refuses to take," a family source tells
People. "This is just another sad, sad evening."
Upon arrival at the hospital, an account on TMZ asserts that the star was manic and made a scene for two hours before she could be admitted. Spears' mother, Lynne, traveled to the hospital as part of the police escort. Her father, Jaime, and brother, Bryan, arrived not long after she was admitted.
Late Wednesday night, online rumors suggested that Britney had attempted suicide, but manager Sam Lufti and gal pal Alli Sims have both denied that tale.
