AMC Explores Mars with New Series
There is life on Mars, but it isn't on ABC.
According to
The Hollywood Reporter, AMC is developing a sci-fi series based on the 1992 Kim Stanley Robinson novel
Red Mars, which details the first human colony on the fourth planet.
"This fits in with our bigger vision of wanting series that feel like cinematic one-hour movies," Christina Wayne, AMC's senior vice president original series and miniseries, said. "We're always looking for big genres but to do them in slightly different ways so they feel fresh and new."
Despite the exploration of the Red Planet, the show will be character-driven, executives say.
Jonathan Hensleigh will write and executive produce the project with Jaffe Braunstein Entertainment's Michael Jaffe and Howard Braunstein, and Vince Gerardis, Ralph Vicinanza and Eli Kirschner of Created By.
No word yet on a premiere date, but a pilot could be filmed by year's end. -
