Steven M. Bornstein has stepped down as president of ABC. Bornstein, who has held the position for a year, plans to pursue other interests. "Steve was instrumental in the development of numerous cable and online businesses, and played key roles in the enormous success of ESPN and the successful launch of the ABC Family Channel," said Disney president Robert A. Iger. "We appreciate all that he has done for ESPN, ABC Family and ABC and wish him well." read more


Rosie O'Donnell's longtime girlfriend, Kelli Carpenter, is pregnant, Access Hollywood and US Weekly report. Earlier this month, O'Donnell's rep, Lois Smith, denied the tabloid tale, insisting that "this is absolutely not true." Calls to Smith have not yet been returned. read more


CBS took an early lead in the May sweeps derby, winning the ratings race last week with an average 12.7 million viewers. NBC ranked second (11.8 million viewers), followed by ABC (9.2 million) and Fox (7.8 million). The top five shows among total viewers were: ER, CSI, Friends, Survivor: Marquesas and Law & Order. Lawyers for Grammy-winning R&B star R. Kelly say they will fight a third civil lawsuit claiming their client had sex with an underage girl. "People seem to have gotten the idea that R. Kelly is some sort of walking ATM machine they can hit up for cash simply by threatening to sue him," attorney Gerry Margolis said in response to Monday's suit, in which a 16-year-old girl asks for more than $50,000. "R. Kelly is no angel, but he is no monster, either." The two previous suits have been settled. read more


ABC and NBC will halt normal programming for a full day on Sept. 11 to commemorate the first anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. "This is the major news event of our lives," ABC News President David Westin tells The Associated Press. "This is a real opportunity to go back and comprehensively and systematically put together the facts as we now know them, and put them into some perspective." CBS and Fox, meanwhile, have yet to announce their plans. read more


Shakira is speaking out about allegations that the clothing line she models for, Delia's, engages in unfair labor practices. "I would never knowingly wear any clothes or support any company who produced clothing with alleged wage and labor violations," the singer said in a statement. read more


Oscar winner Halle Berry has signed a deal with MGM to star in and produce a remake of the 1974 blaxploitation flick Foxy Brown, Variety reports. Berry also has committed to produce and star in the low-budget MGM drama Brown-Eyed Girl, about "the ups and downs in love and life of a contemporary woman." read more


PBS has ordered nine additional episodes of its new Latino drama American Family... For the first time in four months, ABC's World News Tonight beat NBC's Nightly News in the ratings. read more
