SAG SWITCH

The Screen Actors Guild has moved its 2004 awards ceremony up a month, from late March to Feb. 8, 2004. This follows the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' decision to move its annual Oscar ceremony from late March to Feb. 29, 2004. Next year's SAG Awards will take place on March 9. read more

HALO EFFECT

Demi Moore is coming out of retirement to appear in the upcoming Charlie's Angels sequel. The onetime box office draw will play a former angel working on the other side of the law in Charlie's Angels 2: Halo, scheduled for release next June. Moore, 39, hasn't been seen in theaters since 2000's Passion of Mind, a film which, um, no one really saw. read more

THE BOSS IS BACK

Bruce Springsteen's media blitz last week paid off big-time. His latest CD, The Rising, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's album chart, selling 526,000 copies. That ranks as the biggest opening-week tally in Springsteen's career. (His previous best was Human Touch, which sold 246,000 in 1992.) The Boss and his E Street Band, meanwhile, kicked off their 46-city tour Wednesday in New Jersey. read more

SPACE CADET

'N Sync's Lance Bass better call his accountant, and quick! Russia's space agency said Wednesday that it might scrap plans to include Bass on its October flight to the International Space Station because he failed to meet a payment deadline. Meanwhile, fellow 'N Syncer Chris Kirkpatrick and pop starlet Willa Ford will co-host this year's Miss USA pageant, broadcast live Aug. 28 on CBS. read more

DREAM TEAM

Silence of the Lambs director Jonathan Demme is poised to reunite with Jodie Foster in an untitled modern-day thriller from scribe Richard Price (Clockers), Variety reports. The script is being written specifically as a starring vehicle for Foster. read more

GREAT SCOTT!

Ex-Philly actor Tom Everett Scott has signed on to do five to eight episodes of ER. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he will play Eric Wyczenski, an Air Force air-traffic controller who comes to Chicago to visit his sister, nurse Abby Lockhart (Maura Tierney). He'll first appear in the third episode of the season. read more

TOUGH CELL

Don't hold your breath for that in-the-works Buffy the Vampire Slayer animated series. According to Buffy creator Joss Whedon, the spinoff's prospects remain sketchy. "Every day it changes," he tells TV Guide Online. "Today, it's not so good." What's the problem? "I can't really go into it, but it's all about contracts and finding a home for it and financing. A lot of really boring stuff." read more

MOLE FEVER

ABC's Mole franchise may not be dead after all. Buoyed by the decent ratings turned in this summer by Mole 2: The Next Betrayal, the network is considering a third installment, Variety reports. Meanwhile, during last night's Mole 2 finale, Bill was revealed to be the spy. read more

WILL MARIAH BE AS LUCKY?

Mariah Carey will release her comeback album on Dec. 10, MTV News reports. The as-yet-untitled CD — her first project with hip-hop label Def Jam — reportedly will touch on many of the pop diva's recent problems (read: Glitter). read more

American rock legend Jimi Hendrix has been voted the greatest guitarist of all time by readers of Europe's Total Guitar magazine. Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page ranked second, followed by Eric Clapton in third. Modern musicians making the cut include Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine (No. 13) and late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain (No. 14). read more
